Disturbances in equilibrium function after major earthquake

چکیده
Major earthquakes were followed by a large number of aftershocks and significant outbreaks of dizziness occurred over a large area. However it is unclear why major earthquake causes dizziness. We conducted an intergroup trial on equilibrium dysfunction and psychological states associated with equilibrium dysfunction in individuals exposed to repetitive aftershocks versus those who were rarely exposed. Greater equilibrium dysfunction was observed in the aftershock-exposed group under conditions without visual compensation. Equilibrium dysfunction in the aftershock-exposed group appears to have arisen from disturbance of the inner ear, as well as individual vulnerability to state anxiety enhanced by repetitive exposure to aftershocks. We indicate potential effects of autonomic stress on equilibrium function after major earthquake. Our findings may contribute to risk management of psychological and physical health after major earthquakes with aftershocks, and allow development of a new empirical approach to disaster care after such events.

Observation of vertical electron density profile in inospheric E-layer during Indian-Ocean earthquake on December 2004 using CHAMP satellite
This paper describes the observation and analysis of vertical electron density before major earthquake above the Sumatra-Malaysia region during Indian Ocean major earthquake in 2004 in Aceh, Sumatra. The electron density profile in E-layer of ionosphere a few days before earthquake and a few hours after earthquake have been observed using the data from the CHAMP satellite. The data obtained fro...

Natural disasters cause millions of death and disability and major financial losses world wide every year. The major concern of our health system has already been to reduce physical mortality and morbidity. While such events may be a considerable source of stress for the survivors and cause serious and long-lasting psychiatric complications. The purpose of this study was to assess the funct...
متن کاملStudy of Satellite Gravity over the Sumatran Earthquake Region
The devastating earthquake (and the corresponding tsunami) that struck the Indian Ocean near Sumatra (Indonesia) on 26 December, 2004 was extremely powerful. In the present study, a very high resolution 3D gravity image has been generated over a part of eastern Indian offshore over the Sumatran earthquake region. Four latitudinal gravity profiles have been generated across the epicenter/aftersh...
متن کاملA Mathematical Programming with Equilibrium Constraints for Managing Traffic after a Major Earthquake: a Merit-function Based Approach
This paper proposes the methodology to evaluate the road network anti-hazardous ability by the concept of network capacity reliability. The methodology proposed here considers the area-traffic regulation, which may be implemented when a large disaster occurs in Japan. The model to calculate entry permission rates is formulated as MPEC (Mathematical Programming with Equilibrium Constraints) in w...
متن کاملLocalised Effects of a Mega-Disturbance: Spatiotemporal Responses of Intertidal Sandy Shore Communities to the 2010 Chilean Earthquake
Determining the effects of unpredictable disturbances on dynamic ecological systems is challenged by the paucity of appropriate temporal and spatial coverage of data. On 27 February 2010, an 8.8 Mw mega-earthquake and tsunami struck central Chile and caused coastal land-level changes, massive damage to coastal infrastructure, and widespread mortality of coastal organisms. Wave-exposed sandy bea...
